A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Addison in Wisconsin regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request was made by us at the Washington County Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

We requested records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically seeking a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.

These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

The FOIA request aims to ensure that the voting process remains transparent and that any potential issues or irregularities can be identified and addressed promptly. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to uphold democratic processes and keep our readers informed about important local governmental affairs.

As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications needed regarding this request from the Town of Addison’s office.
