FOIA Request to Town of Barton Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024.

The Washington County Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Town of Barton. The request, dated November 7, 2024, seeks access to public records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq.

Specifically, we are requesting a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. As a media organization, our role is to gather and report news to the public. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as a media professional involved in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver. We await a response from the Town of Barton and will continue our efforts in promoting transparency and accountability in local government affairs.
