Froedtert West Bend Hospital recently issued the following announcement.
After eight years as the enterprise chief medical officer for the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network, Jonathon Truwit, MD, will retire effective July 2022. Dr. Truwit joined the Froedtert & MCW health network in January 2014 as enterprise chief medical officer and as a tenured professor of medicine (pulmonary) at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
During his time as enterprise chief medical officer, Dr. Truwit has been responsible for the development and implementation of a strategy to improve enterprise quality and safety outcomes, improve physician alignment and leading evidence-based programs that deliver results across the Froedtert & MCW health network. Additionally, he has provided leadership for clinical quality and safety, disease management, care coordination, clinical integration and the overall analytics.
Most recently, Dr. Truwit led the health network’s response to COVID-19, position the health network as the area’s leader in COVID-19 testing access and results and COVID-19 vaccination with attention to both racial and ethnic disparity.
“Dr. Truwit has had a rich career not only as a medical doctor and as a professor of medicine, but also as a well-respected colleague, mentor and leader,” said Cathy Jacobson, president and chief executive officer of Froedtert Health. “In under a decade, he achieved a career’s worth of accomplishments with the support of the strong teams he helped build and has helped further our shared mission with the Medical College of Wisconsin focused on patient care, innovation, medical research and education. To say we are grateful for Dr. Truwit’s service is truly an understatement.”

Uihlein, MA, Dean of the MCW School of Medicine. “We will miss Dr. Truwit and wish him well in all of his future endeavors.”
Dr. Truwit was formerly professor of medicine with tenure, chief medical officer and senior associate dean for clinical affairs at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He received a BSE from Duke University School of Engineering in 1979, his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1983 and an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in 2009. Dr. Truwit served his internship and residency in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1983-1986. He completed a fellowship in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1986-1989. Dr. Truwit is currently certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and holds subspecialty certifications with the ABIM in Critical Care and Pulmonary.
A committee will be established to conduct a national search to fill Dr. Truwit’s role.
