Broadband

Issued the following announcement to be held Aug 3.

Good news! The town of Erin has been working with Charter Communications to provide broadband service to town residents and businesses. When the company reviewed all the material we provided – maps, addresses, internet speed tests – it concluded the cost to provide broadband service is in line with the company’s guidelines. Therefore, the company committed to providing service without going through the state of Wisconsin for public grant funds. This is great news for residents as we aren’t waiting for a determination from the state and all 1700 residences and businesses will have the option of obtaining broadband service from Charter. Additionally, foregoing the grant money means other communities will have access to those funds. While we have the company’s commitment in writing, execs are still working on the construction schedule. Thanks to those of you who provided internet speed test results and related anecdotes.

A note about Charter… There are many great companies providing broadband service. However, when we looked at Erin’s bordering communities, their broadband service providers and ongoing issues with wireless connections in the town, it made sense to approach Charter. Our rolling terrain, beautiful trees and expansive lots are challenging for wireless service. It goes without saying that residents may contract with whomever they feel comfortable. Realizing some of you have other providers, our goal is to make broadband available to all residents. Our work with Charter simply provides another option.
